Some families plan a first foreign holiday around a beach in Thailand or a quick hop to Dubai. The Sinhas went straight for the other side of the world. Mr. Devendra Sinha, his wife and their two daughters wanted to stand together in front of the Sydney Opera House, and they wanted to do it without a single stamp in any of their passports. This is how that plan turned into four Australian visa grants, and what any family in the same position can learn from it.
We are sharing their story with their permission. Names of the daughters, passport numbers, application IDs and grant numbers have been kept private, as they should be.
The first call: "We have never travelled. Will we still get it?"
22 September 2026Mr. Sinha found us the way a lot of people now do. He was searching for visa help online, through Google and ChatGPT, and our name came up. He called, and the first real question was the one we hear from almost every first-time family: does a blank passport count against us?
It is a fair worry. Australia's visitor visa is assessed on whether the applicant is a genuine visitor, someone who intends to holiday and then return home. Travel history is one way to show that, but it is not the only way. A steady job, a family home, children in school or college, money that has clearly been earned and saved over time, and a trip plan that makes sense for the dates and the budget all tell the same story. For a family with roots in India, that story is usually strong. It just has to be laid out clearly on paper.
On that first call we walked Mr. Sinha through the whole process: what each family member would need, how the supporting documents should be arranged, how the applications would be lodged through the Australian Government's ImmiAccount portal, and what the waiting period usually looks like. No pressure, no promises about the outcome. Just the plan.
A blank passport is not a red flag. A file that does not explain itself is.

Documents in, work begins, and no office visit needed
25 September 2026Three days later the family sent their documents over. There was no face-to-face meeting at any point in this case. Every discussion, every question and every correction happened over the phone and by email. For a family juggling work and studies, that mattered more than they expected.
Once the papers arrived, our team sorted them person by person, checked each one against what an Australian case officer needs to see, and listed the gaps. A family file is really four individual files that have to agree with each other. If the father's leave letter says one set of dates and the itinerary says another, that small mismatch can slow everything down.
What we typically put together for a family tourist file
Every case is different, but these are the building blocks we prepare for most Indian families applying under the Tourist stream:
- Valid passports for every memberChecked for validity well beyond the return date, clean bio pages and matching spellings across all documents.
- Proof of the family relationshipSo the case officer can see four applications belong to one household travelling together.
- Employment or business proofLeave approval, salary slips or business registration showing there is a job or business to come back to.
- Financial evidenceBank statements and income tax returns that show the trip is affordable, with balances that look earned, not parked.
- Study proof for studentsAn enrolment or bonafide letter from the college or school, which is a strong reason to return on time.
- A realistic travel planIntended dates, cities and rough costs that match the leave dates and the funds shown.
- A clear cover letterOne page that ties the whole family's purpose, plans and return together in plain language.
- Ties to IndiaProperty papers or other commitments where available, which add weight to the intention to return.
Why "four files" matters: each family member is assessed as an individual applicant and receives their own grant notice. Each person also pays their own visa application charge. There is no family rate or child discount on the Australian visitor visa.
Lodged on ImmiAccount, and then the wait
4 October 2026After the final review, the four Visitor visa (subclass 600) applications in the Tourist stream were lodged online on 4 October 2026. From here, nothing a consultant or applicant does can speed things up. The applications sit with the Department of Home Affairs, and the family waits.
We told the Sinhas what to expect. Decisions on family applications do not always arrive together, and a quiet inbox for one member while another has been granted does not mean anything has gone wrong. That conversation turned out to be useful sooner than anyone thought.
16 October: one grant, three still waiting
16 October 2026Twelve days after lodgement, the first grant notice arrived. One member of the family had their Australian visitor visa. It was good news, and also the start of a slightly nervous week, because the other three were still pending.
Staggered decisions are common on family files. Each application is picked up and finalised on its own track, sometimes by different officers, so one can close days before the others. We kept the family updated and reassured them that the remaining applications were simply still in the queue.
22 October: four out of four
22 October 2026Six days later, the remaining three grants came through together. All four members of the Sinha family now held Australian visitor visas, 18 days after the applications were lodged and exactly one month after that first phone call.

In Mr. Sinha's words
Two days after the last grant, Mr. Sinha left this review on our Google Business Profile. We have reproduced it exactly as he wrote it.
★★★★★
"I found Bobby's contact through Google/ChatGPT while looking for visa assistance, and I'm glad I connected with him.
Bobby was extremely helpful, professional, and proactive throughout the visa process. He guided me with all the required documentation, coordinated everything smoothly, and provided regular updates on the progress.
I truly appreciate his support and prompt responses, which made the entire visa process smooth and hassle-free.
I highly recommend Bobby to anyone looking for reliable visa assistance and professional guidance. Thank you, Bobby, for your excellent service!"
What stands out to us is the phrase "regular updates". The week between the first grant and the last was the hardest part of this case for the family, and simple, honest updates were what got them through it.
How to read your Australia visa grant notice
Australia does not put a sticker in your passport. Your visa is electronic and linked to your passport number, and the grant notice that arrives by email is your record of it. Families opening four of these at once often ask what each line means. Here is a plain-language guide.
| Field on the notice | What it means for you |
|---|---|
| Visa subclass and stream | Shows Visitor (subclass 600) and the stream, here Tourist. This is a holiday and family visit visa, not a work visa. |
| Date of grant | The day the decision was made. In a family case, each member can have a different date. |
| Must not arrive after | The last date you can enter Australia on this visa. Plan flights well within it. |
| Length of stay | How long you can stay on each visit, counted from the date of each arrival. The Tourist stream can allow up to 12 months, but your notice sets your actual limit. |
| Travel (entries) | Whether you can enter once or multiple times during the visa period. |
| Condition 8101 | No work. You cannot take up paid or unpaid employment while in Australia. |
| Condition 8201 | Study or training is limited to a maximum of three months. |
| Other conditions, if listed | Some notices carry extra conditions, for example 8503 (no further stay), which limits applying for most other visas while in Australia. Read every condition on every notice. |
Keep it private: your grant notice carries your transaction reference and passport details. Do not post it on social media. Print a copy for each traveller and keep a digital copy on your phone for airport check-in.
Australia Visitor visa (Subclass 600) at a glance for Indian families, 2026
| Point | What you should know |
|---|---|
| Visa for holidays | Visitor visa, subclass 600, Tourist stream (applying from outside Australia). |
| Government fee | AUD 250 per applicant from 1 July 2026, up from AUD 200. Children pay the same charge. Fees are reviewed every year, so confirm before you pay. |
| How you apply | Online through ImmiAccount on the Department of Home Affairs website. |
| Who decides | The Department of Home Affairs alone. No agent or consultant can influence or guarantee a decision. |
| Processing time | Varies with demand and the strength of each file. Home Affairs publishes indicative times that change month to month. The Sinha family received all four grants 18 days after lodgement. |
| Work allowed? | No. Tourist visas usually carry condition 8101, no work. |
| Travel history needed? | Not mandatory. First-time travellers can be granted when their file shows genuine visit intent and strong reasons to return. |
First-time family worries, and what really happens
| The worry | The reality |
|---|---|
| "No travel history means refusal." | The Sinhas had none. A clean, consistent file with strong ties to India carried the case. |
| "One family member granted and others not yet? Something is wrong." | Decisions on family files often arrive on different days. Here the gap was six days. |
| "We need to visit an office in person." | This entire case ran over phone and email, from first call to final grant. |
| "More documents is always better." | Relevant, organised documents beat a thick pile. Case officers look for clarity and consistency. |
| "An agent can guarantee the visa." | No one can. Anyone promising a 100 percent guaranteed visa is a warning sign. |
If that last point sounds familiar, our guide on the "100% guaranteed visa" trap explains how to spot it.
Six things we would tell any family planning Australia
- Apply as a unit, prepare as individuals. Lodge together, but make sure each person's documents stand on their own.
- Keep dates consistent everywhere. Leave letters, itinerary, cover letter and bookings should tell the same story.
- Show money that has history. Steady savings over months reads far better than a large deposit made last week.
- Do not book non-refundable flights before the grants. Hold off until every family member has their notice.
- Allow a buffer of a few weeks. The Sinhas were quick at 18 days, but plan for longer, especially before school holidays and Christmas.
- Buy travel insurance for the whole family. Australian healthcare is expensive for visitors, and a medical bill can wreck a holiday budget.
What this story really shows
The Sinha family did not have a shortcut. They had a clear plan, documents that agreed with each other, and someone keeping them informed while they waited. A first international trip, as a family of four, to a country many people think of as hard to get into, came together in one month without a single office visit.
For us, cases like this are why we do the work. Like the Koli couple's first trip to Germany, it is proof that a blank passport is a starting point, not a dead end. Now there is only one thing left for the Sinhas to do: pack for Sydney.
Frequently asked questions
Can an Indian family get an Australia tourist visa with no previous travel history?
Yes. Travel history helps but is not required. The Sinha family had never travelled abroad and all four members were granted Visitor visas (subclass 600). What matters is showing a genuine holiday purpose, enough funds and strong reasons to return to India, such as a job, studies, family and property.
How long does an Australia visitor visa take from India in 2026?
It varies. The Department of Home Affairs publishes indicative processing times that change month to month. In this case the first grant came 12 days after lodgement and the last 18 days after. We advise families to apply at least four to six weeks before they plan to book flights.
Why did one family member get the visa before the others?
Each person in a family is assessed as an individual applicant, and each application can be finalised on a different day. A grant for one member while others are pending is normal and does not suggest a problem with the remaining applications.
What is the Australia tourist visa fee for Indian citizens in 2026?
The government charge for the Visitor visa (subclass 600) Tourist stream, applied from outside Australia, is AUD 250 per applicant from 1 July 2026. Children pay the same amount, and there is no family discount. Bank or card surcharges and any service fees are extra.
Do I need to visit an office to apply for an Australia visitor visa?
Not necessarily. The application is lodged online through ImmiAccount. The Sinha family's case was handled completely over phone and email, with no face-to-face meeting. If biometrics or a health check is requested for your case, you will be told after lodgement.
Can I work in Australia on a tourist visa?
No. The Tourist stream usually carries condition 8101, which means no work of any kind. Study or training is also capped at three months under condition 8201. Always check the conditions listed on your own grant notice.
Does Australia put a visa sticker in the passport?
No. Australian visitor visas are electronic and linked to your passport. Your grant notice, received by email, is your proof. Carry a printed and a digital copy for each traveller.
